For women in heterosexual relationships, understanding the men we love can be quite a challenge. And so I’ve brought in some reinforcements! Shana James, MA, has been coaching men for decades – helping them, understanding them, and figuring out how they really tick. Today we’ll cover the 5 things women need to know about men. Stay tuned!
The 5 Things Women Need to Know About Men
1. Men have feelings.
I know this seems obvious, but men can act in a way that makes it easy to forget they have feelings and they can be hurt.
2. Men get scared too.
Most men are still socialized and conditioned a certain way and the way women want to interact in relationships can easily leave men feeling out of their depth so they might act defensively or like they don’t care… but they do.
3. Men are vulnerable.
Men often feel that they need to be the “rock” in the relationship and like they have to hold it together no matter what. However, they have vulnerabilities too, of course, and can feel extra vulnerable when they’re told to share them.
4. OK isn’t OK.
When men say they’re “OK” or that everything is “OK” it’s often not. This is a time to help them dig deeper and get real with what’s going on internally. See “OK” as a warning sign.
5. Stay present and in desire versus complaint as much as possible.
